Sunrises and sunsets are my very favorite times of the day because they generally have the most dramatic lighting and beautiful colors. I also love to paint water because it reflects those beautiful colors in the sky. There is something about being around the water... whether it's oceans, lakes, streams or rivers that just takes you away from the everyday busyness of life. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it.

This painting is a scene from South Carolina’s Hunting Island State Park which covers 5,000 acres of pristine salt marsh, beach and maritime forest. I loved the contrast of the complementery colors of the deep reds and oranges in the sky against the light greens in the grasses. And of course I always love sunrises and sunsets. To me, they are both sunshine for the soul!
